Upper Body Toning Exercises

Many women forgo upper body toning exercises because they don’t want to look like a body builder. But what you may not know is that women aren’t genetically designed to create bulky muscles. Hence, the only thing you have to gain from upper body toning exercises is a trimmer, firmer upper body that looks great in a sleeveless top. You will also find that everyday activities are easier when you take the time to exercise your upper body – here’s what you need to know.

Creating a firmer upper body takes only a few upper body toning exercises. Added to your regular workout routine, these exercises will help you workout all of the muscles in the arms as well as the shoulders and chest. That adds up to a slim neckline and upper body.

  • Pushups – Traditional pushups are still the best exercise for your upper body. They work on all of the major muscle groups and can be done without any equipment. Those that can not do traditional style pushups can bend their knees to make them easier or push off a wall until they become stronger.

  • Bicep curls – Take a weight in one hand and lift it to your shoulder, slowly lower it down. You want to make sure the palm is facing away from your body at first, but then is turned to face the shoulder as you lift.

  • Tricep dips – Take your palms and place them on a raised, sturdy surface in your home or office. Slowly lower yourself down without using any body part but your arms. Focus on the backs of your arms pushing you up and controlling the movement down.

Of course, there are many other upper body toning exercises that you can do, but these are some of the easiest that don’t require any equipment unless you feel you need the additional resistance of a weight.

By adding upper body toning exercises to your workout, you will help your body as it moves through everyday activities. Lifting a grocery bag or a child will be easier. You will also notice that you can open doors more easily and maneuver your upper body without strain. Those that sit hunched over their desks at work will notice they have less muscle strain after a longer shift.

When you decide to include upper body toning exercises as a part of your workout and fitness routine, you’re not only reshaping your body and strengthening your torso; you’re also protecting your body from injury. The stronger your body is, the better able it will be to move and perform the tasks you need to complete. And that benefit is something that looks just as good.
