Hi I wondering if you had any strength training tips for backpacking? I am trying to prepare for a 50 mile hike but my legs are very weak. Thanks!

      Hi, Hal.

I LOVE backpacking and hiking and all that fun stuff! Biggest piece of advice I can give you has more to do with endurance than anything else.

You’ll want to get used to walking the proper daily mileage that you have planned first. So if your plan is to hike 10 miles per day, then get used to that. Most likely it isn’t possible for you to do all this walking with the weight of your backpack on… so this is where a full body strength training routine comes in.

You’ll want to work all your muscles – not just your leg muscles.

Also, start slow and be careful during your training for this hike. You want to stay healthy and avoid injury. Good luck in your trip!

    Hi Lynn,
Do you have anything for a teen girl who is going to join the marines after high school? thanks!

      Hi, Amanda.

Pretty much anything that gets you in top cardio and muscular shape. So for example, running for long distances and also body weight exercises (like push up, pull up, squats, etc).

I would see what the physical requirements to join the marines is and then tailor your workouts to that.
