Quick Fat Loss

Quick fat loss is something that we all wish we could achieve – and as soon as possible, please. But in reality, our bodies don't quite work that way. In fact, when we embark upon drastic quick fat loss programs, we can often harm our bodies and make it more difficult than ever to lose weight as a result.

Warning Signs

You have already seen the promises of quick fat loss in magazines and even on television shows. According to these plans, you can lose twenty pounds in a week or ten pounds in a day, depending on where you look. However, in exchange for this quick weight loss, you need to drastically change your life.

These kinds of programs will have you eating only one food group or drinking juices for days on end. Maybe you will have to workout for hours or eat a particular soup for one week. And still others have you measuring out every bite of food that goes into your mouth.

But in the end, you lose weight on the quick fat loss programs, so is it all worth it?

How You Might be Harming Yourself

When you try these quick fat loss programs, you can end up doing several things to your body. One of the results of this rapid weight loss is that you are actually losing water weight and muscle weight. Since these are two sources of energy and balance in your body that are readily available, they're the first ones to go.

Though your scale might be moving downwards, it's weight you don't want to lose. Muscle that is lose is also metabolism that is lost. Fat pounds don't burn calories, but your muscles do.

With each pound of muscle lost, you are slowing your metabolism, making it harder to lose weight in the future.

How to Lose Fat the Right Way

First of all, the avoidance of quick fat loss schemes is just good advice when you're looking at long term weight loss. Start by cutting out sugars and fatty foods from your diet on most days and adding more fruits and vegetables. Then, you will want to increase your activity levels to help you burn off even more calories.

Next, you will want to add weight lifting to your exercise routine to help build calorie burning muscles.

Quick fat loss is appealing, but it's also temporary. As soon as you begin to eat the way you used to, the pounds lost will come back, often with friends.
