Glucose intolerance and fat loss are often discussed as being medically important, but it's not always clear how they relate to each other. In current research, it's been shown that being sensitive to glucose can actually be caused by additional weight. So, in that vein, glucose intolerance and fat loss are vital to restoring good health.

Before talking about glucose intolerance and fat loss, you need to understand the terms. Glucose intolerance is not diabetes, as many people believe it to be. However, it is the beginning stage of diabetes, or pre-diabetes, in some medical circles.

In this stage, your body is not able to process sugar as easily as it normally does. This could be due to problems with the pancreas' secretion of insulin or it may be due to other hormonal or thyroid issues – it depends on the individual.

People who are in the beginning stages of glucose intolerance may notice they are losing weight for no reason, have an increased need to urinate resulting from an increased need to drink fluids.

Controlling Your Glucose

If you should notice any of these symptoms, your doctor will most likely have you do a round of tests on your blood and your blood sugar. Some doctors like to have patients do special tests in which you will need to drink a sugary beverage and then have your blood tested. This will show how your body reacts to the sugars, how it processes them.

The results of these tests will prompt further discussion of glucose intolerance and fat loss. Since you're not technically diabetic in these early stages, there may still be ways to reverse your body's inability to process sugars.

Changing the Way You Look at Sugar

Losing weight is one of the best ways that many people can get their sugar levels under control. Even losing just 10% of your body weight can help you with glucose intolerance and fat loss. Choosing foods that are lower in sugar and combining natural sugars with complex carbohydrates to slow digestion are two ways to help keep your sugar levels steady.

Your doctor may have you take medications and test your blood sugars as well as a part of a glucose intolerance and fat loss program.

If caught early, glucose intolerance may be nothing more than a passing memory in time and a reminder to take of yourself and your diet.
