Fat Loss Myths

It's hard to believe the some people still put their faith in fat loss myths. Even though science is getting better at spreading the word about what will help you lose weight and what will not, some myths seem to pervade. And while it's true that many fat loss myths change weekly, you deserve to know what's true.

You Need to Work Out for Long Periods of time

Exercise related fat loss myths are typically the hardest to break because they seem like they would be logical. However, the human body doesn't always work in a logical way – as science is proving. But the idea that you need to work out for a longer period of time to lose weight is actually a myth.

When you work out for a longer period of time, yes, you can burn more calories and that can lead to more fat loss. But most people won't stick with a plan that requires they work out for an hour, so this isn’t a realistic plan that will help you lose fat. In addition, the longer you work out, the slower you are going to move by the end of it, offsetting much of the extra calorie burn you might have had if you could have kept up the pace.

To lose fat, you need to forget fat loss myths like this and replace those pieces of advice with the idea of shorter interval workout sessions. When you run, for example, include small bursts of faster running, then slow down again. You will burn more calories in a shorter amount of time because you're not tiring your body too much, but you are working harder.

Eat Less to Lose More

While you are creating a calorie deficit by eating less, your body already knows that these common fat loss myths are false. The body was designed to keep running as long as it has enough fuel. When you take away too much fuel, it begins to conserve energy and calories in order to have enough fuel. Starving actually slows down your weight loss instead of speeding it up.

Conversely, eating more can actually stimulate your body's calorie burning response. Studies have shown that eating up to six time a day can help you burn more calories, even if you're eating more calories.

Losing weight doesn't have to be hindered by fat loss myths. By learning more about your body and how it actually works, you will find that many of the things you may have been doing were actually hurting your progress. But that doesn't mean you can't change your plan now.
