Exercise and Fat Loss

The link between exercise and fat loss is something that most people can see. When you exercise more, you burn more calories and thus you lose more fat. But this is only the beginning of exercise and fat loss – and the beginning of health for you.

Exercises that Will Help You Lose Fat

The key to exercise and fat loss doesn't lie in the kind of exercise that you do. You can choose anything that you enjoy, in fact, from dancing to running to walking to biking. In fact, it's a better idea to choose something you love to do, rather than something you 'think' will be better for you.

The main point is that the exercise you choose needs to make your heart and your lungs work harder than they normally do. If you're a beginner, you will find that most exercises will make you work harder – but they will get easier the more you do them. To choose a good exercise, try to find one that uses the bigger muscles of your body, like your legs as that will help to make your body work harder.

Things like weight lifting or calisthenics can also make you breathe more heavily, but they aren't necessarily the best choices in exercise, and fat loss isn't always an immediate result.

While it's true that gaining muscle will help you burn more calories and thus more fat, you want to also incorporate cardio based exercises for a bigger calorie burn.

Ways to Make Your Exercise Plan Work Harder

As you exercise and fat loss begins to occur, you will notice that your workouts are much easier than they used to be. This is a good sign – a sign that you are getting into better shape. However, it's also a sign that you need to work harder in order to continue to challenge your body.

To continue fat loss, you need to increase the intensity of your workouts – run faster, swim longer, walk and pump your arms, etc. Find a way to make your heart and lungs work as hard as they used to when you first started.

Other ways to ramp up your routine include:

  • Add time to your workout
  • Add weight to your routine
  • Change the activity you are doing

Exercise and fat loss are interrelated, that's for sure. But it's how you put them together in your exercise plan that will determine the results.
